Meet the dentist: Dr. Derek Patao
Dr. Patao grew up locally here in La Canada, CA. He attended USC for his undergraduate studies majoring in Neuroscience and went on to graduate amongst the top of his class earning his doctorate from USC Dental school. Dr. Patao focuses his treatment on Biomimetic Dentistry, which utilizes minimally invasive and conservative techniques, preserving natural dentition as much as possible. We accomplish this by using adhesive restorations that “mimic” natural tooth structure as closely as possible. Using these techniques and materials gives teeth a better chance of avoiding more invasive dental procedures, such as root canals and/or tooth loss. Dr. Patao loves patient care and building long lasting relationships with patients and families of all ages. Dr. Patao’s gentle techniques are centered around providing patients with the highest quality care and is willing to take his time to ensure they get the best possible outcomes. As an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Los Angeles Dental Society, and several study clubs throughout the Glendale area, Dr. Patao strives to surround himself with some of the best practitioners in his field. Dr. Patao has completed hundreds of hours of continued education utilizing the latest technology and loves the art of dentistry and continuous learning.

Our Approach
Biomimetic dentistry is a conservative approach to dental treatment that emphasizes preservation of natural tooth structure and restoring it to its original function and appearance. In comparison to traditional dentistry, which often involves removing healthy tooth structure to place artificial restorations, biomimetic dentistry is a more holistic and minimally invasive solution.
Here are some reasons why someone should consider seeing a biomimetic dentist:
1. Conservative Approach: Biomimetic dentistry takes a conservative approach to dental treatment, preserving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. This helps to maintain the strength and integrity of the tooth, and reduces the risk of future dental problems.
2. Minimally Invasive: Biomimetic dentistry is minimally invasive, meaning that the dentist will remove only the damaged or infected portion of the tooth. This helps to reduce the amount of healthy tooth structure that is removed, preserving the tooth’s strength and stability.
3. Natural Appearance: Biomimetic materials, such as composite resin, porcelain, and ceramics, are designed to match the color and texture of your natural teeth. This helps to create a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing solution to dental problems.
4. Durable and Long-lasting: Biomimetic restorations are designed to mimic the natural tooth structure and are typically stronger, more biocompatible and durable than traditional restorations. This helps to ensure a long-lasting restoration that will not break or chip easily.
5. Cost-effective: Biomimetic dentistry is often a more cost-effective solution in the long run, as it helps to preserve natural tooth structure and reduce the need for future dental treatments.
If you are looking for a solution that preserves your natural tooth structure and provides a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result, biomimetic dentistry is the right choice for you.
